Le Concert and its Italian dubbing stand for the sublime and the abominable. Radu Mihaileanu creates a delicate masterpiece that Alessandro Rossi destroys without pity turning the grotesque into something ridiculous and reducing the carelessness of art to carelessness full stop. For this reason, what was intended to be a farse, was turned into a tragedy without any chance of recovery.
It is absolute torture and an insult to be forced to listen to Aleksei Guskov and the other excellent Russian actors talk like amateurs of a very low avanspettacolo, very badly imitating the Russian accent. And why would they do that anyway? They are in Moscow, their home. What’s the big idea? Does the distributor really believe that the three million odd of takings were made thanks to this brilliant idea? And does Radu Mihaileanu know about this Doktor Mengele-style job? Did he agree with it? Basically, this was the worst dubbing of the century. And why didn’t professional actors such as Massimo Rossi do something about it?
Maybe one can’t bother Moni Ovadia, but if this is the result, it probably would be enough to simply take on a normal professional. The Millionaire was re-dubbed due to a definitely involuntary mistake. But then, whoever allowed this crime to take place should really be arrested and confined in a gulag. Luckily, when anger and consternation become unbearable, everybody shuts up and enjoys the music, possibly the only chance of reconciliation in this crazy world.
